Basic GTM checklist

The options for using Google Tag Manager for your digital analytics on your website/app are practically limitless. Below is a very basic list of things we might typically look out for, specifically for websites. Some of these are more suitable for specific types of websites but we thought it was a reasonable starting point. Feel free to use this as a checklist/mini audit for your own website!

  • Account+container structure+ownership worked out
  • Tags created for sending data to test GA property
  • Test and real GA properties compared
  • GA implementation migrated to GTM
  • Automatic events tracked (eg. with Komito analytics)
  • Timer event tracked (for more accurate time on page)
  • Other events+social actions tracked (eg. plugins, chat, multimedia, shares etc)
  • Display/remarketing version of GA code deployed
  • Cross-domain tracking implemented (if appropriate)
  • Custom dimensions & metrics tracked
  • Standard Ecommerce implemented (if appropriate)
  • Enhanced Ecommerce implemented (if appropriate)
  • Website contact form/login-based UserID implemented (if appropriate)
  • Website email-based UserID implemented (if appropriate)
  • Basic Facebook pixel implemented
  • Facebook pixel conversions implemented
