As we’ve learned recently, it’s very worthwhile to check which entity all of your domains are registered under. It’s possible that your domain is registered to an entity (eg. ABN) that it’s not supposed to be registered under (or even one that it’s expired). If this is the case, auDA (the body that governs Australian domains) might spot check you but this might not be flagged until years after you were supposed to file a change of ownership. If your registration details have become out of date and your domain gets audited years later, it can be harder and more stressful to provide the documentation you need.
Overall we’d recommend checking these at least once a year per domain:
- Are you eligible to actually register the domain?
- Are the entity/ABN details for this domain correct?
- Is auto-renew enabled for the domain (with correct payment details)?
- Is there a manual reminder set for checking that renewal went through?
- Is the login to your registrar available to more than one person in your org?
- Would an email/alert from your registrar be seen by more than one person in your org?
- Is the registrant data that people see on WhoIs correct?
